Personally Controlled Electronic Health Records (PCEHR)

The Australian Government will deliver a Personally Controlled Electronic Health Record (PCEHR) System and associated services as part of a $466.7 million investment announced in the 2010/11 federal budget. A PCEHR is a secure, electronic record of your medical history, stored and shared in a network of connected systems.

eHealth sites have been established around Australia to support the development and implementation of the PCEHR system. The eHealth sites will implement and evaluate eHealth infrastructure and standards in real-life settings and are being set up progressively in two waves. In Queensland, Metro North Brisbane Medicare Local is a Wave 1 site, ACCORAS and Mater Misericordiae Health Services Brisbane are Wave 2 sites.

PCEHR Concept of Operations

The PCEHR Concept of Operations document provides an overview of the personally controlled electronic health record (PCEHR) system and how it will work.  It has been updated following public consultation on a draft (April 2011) as well as ongoing consultations with stakeholders and lessons learned from local and international efforts. This version of the Concept of Operations will set the basis for the construction of the PCEHR system.
