Skills for Psychological Recovery (SPR) Training

GPQ has been granted funding by the Department of Health and Ageing to provide the Skills for Psychological Recovery (SPR) training package to parts of Queensland affected by the devastating natural disasters of the 2010/2011 summer. The SPR training and support program has been developed by the Australian Centre for Posttraumatic Mental Health (ACPMH).

SPR is a six hour skills-based workshop on brief psychological strategies designed to reduce distress and promote recovery among children, youth and adults following disaster. SPR delivers an evidence-informed model for disaster relief and provides a platform for communication and integration of disaster recovery services. This training is offered to GPs, allied health professionals, Queensland Health and DoCS staff working directly with people affected by the natural disasters.

GPQ will work closely with local divisions and Medicare Locals to coordinate the provision of training, produce service directories and coordinate the administration for GP’s to acquire CPD points with RACGP. SPR is accredited as FPS CPD (40 points).

The first training is scheduled for August 11 2011 in Dalby. Each division/ Medicare Local has been assigned a key contact who will support them in the roll out of SPR.

GPQ will continue to update the website with training activities as they come to hand.
