Access to quality education and training for mental health professionals in Queensland will improve community access to services and ultimately improve the mental health of all Queenslanders.

Understanding the requirements relating to mental health MBS item numbers, referrals, care-planning, as well as how mental health professionals can work together in a multidisciplinary treatment team, is fundamental to treating people effectively under the Better Access and Better Outcomes programs.

Since the introduction of the Better Access to Mental Health Care Initiative, mental health education for GPs (such as Level 1 and Level 2 mental health education) is no longer a requirement in order for GPs to claim mental health MBS item numbers.  However, it is still strongly encouraged. General Practice Queensland supports the delivery of quality mental health education for all mental health professionals in Queensland.
