Practice Nurses/Allied Health Workers

This incentive is aimed at encouraging GPs to employ of Practice Nurses or Allied Health Workers in recognition of their contribution in the delivery of quality care in general practice.

Essential Criteria
  • Practice must be within target area (RRMA 3-7) or within an Urban Area of Workforce Shortage as defined by the Department of Health and Ageing.
  • GP must employ or retain services of Practice Nurse (registered or enrolled) and/or Allied Health worker for a minimum of two sessions per week (averaged over the PIP payment quarter).  A session is 3.5 hours as a minimum.
Minimum Qualifications and Educational Requirements
  • Registered Nurse
  • Enrolled nurse supervised by a Registered Nurse
  • Recognised educational qualifications for Allied Health Workers
  • Certificate Level III in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health for Aboriginal Health Worker.

Activity

Employment of Practice Nurses/Allied health workers

P.I.P Payment is $8.00 per SWPE at the practice. This also dictates the FTE the practice nurse/allied health worker is employed: Payment capped at 1.0 FTE and 5000 patients per practice (up to $40,000).
Notes Payment made each quarterly PIP.
Payments only made to practices that have employed or retained the services of a practice nurse/allied health worker for a period of time equivalent to its minimum requirement (based on its SWPE count) in each PIP payment quarter.
SWPE per Practice Minimum Sessions employee is required to work per week averaged.
