Statewide Diabetes Clinical Network

The development of Clinical Networks is a key initiative of Queensland Health, to engage clinicians and consumers in decision-making about clinical services planning and implementation, clinical practice improvement and quality enhancements.
The Statewide Diabetes Clinical Network convened in 2005, is one of a number of such Networks. It is a multidisciplinary collaboration, established so that the knowledge and experience of clinicians could be used to improve the quality of care for patients and the efficiency and planning of Queensland’s health services.

The Network utilises service improvement methodology and implements proven methods of continuous quality improvement, mutual learning, standardisation and measurement of patient care outcomes.  The Network will also have a role in planning and delivery of services.

The Statewide Diabetes Clinical Network has identified the following key priority areas for service improvement activities:

  • Intensive management of Type 1 Diabetes;
  •  Management of Type 2 Diabetes and the community interface;
  • Diabetes in pregnancy;
  • Paediatric diabetes;
  • Indigenous and regional/rural issues in diabetes;
  • Diabetic foot

General Practice Queensland participates in this Network as an observer, supporting the nominated General Practitioner representative. A member of the GPQ Chronic Disease Team fulfils this role and shares feedback with the Divisions network, CHAG agencies and other key stakeholders.
