Melissa Williams - Program Coordinator: APCC

Melissa joined GPQ as the Program Coordinator – Australian Primary Care Collaboratives (APCC). Along with the Queensland Program Manager, she is responsible for the management of the APCC program in Queensland.  The APCC program aims to improve clinical health outcomes, reduce lifestyle risk factors, maintain health for chronic and complex conditions and improve access to Australian general practice through establishing a culture of continuous quality improvement within primary health care.  Melissa has come to GPQ after working at South East Alliance of General Practice (Brisbane) in a variety of program officer roles.

   

Jann Offer - Senior Program Leader: Chronic Disease

Jann is a Program Coordinator - Chronic Disease, working as a member of the Non-Government Chronic Disease Team to support the implementation of the Queensland Strategy for Chronic Disease 2005 - 2015. Before coming to GPQ, Jann was a Regional Care Manager at Blue Care with responsibility for the management of a diverse range of residential and community programs including allied health, domiciliary nursing and respite. With the team at GPQ, Jann will continue her engagement with the community health sector, working in partnership with the Divisions, to collaboratively address the proactive prevention and management of Chronic Disease.

Sabrina Ostowari - Program Coordinator: Chronic Disease

Sabrina was previously employed with GPQ as Program Coordinator for Population Health. Sabrina worked across a range of program areas including Lifescripts, pandemic planning and immunisation. Prior to joining GPQ in June 2006, Sabrina worked with both The Cancer Council Queensland and Cancer Institute NSW in the development, implementation and evaluation of state-wide cancer control initiatives and programs specifically in the area of smoking cessation, skin, bowel and breast cancer. Sabrina’s primary role includes providing oversight and support for prevention of chronic disease. This includes providing strategic representation on National and State forums, statewide coordination of the Prevention of Type 2 Diabetes Program, and ongoing support for partnerships developed through the Capacity for Local Partnerships Initiative.

Phillipa Grant - Program Coordinator: Chronic Disease

Prior to joining General Practice Queensland, Phillipa worked in the primary health care industry as a musculoskeletal and rehabilitation physiotherapist. Phillipa also worked for Blue Care in clinical, management and project roles with a primary focus in the support and development of allied health sector initiatives.  At GPQ, Phillipa’s role has a primary focus on working with the divisions network to provide leadership, advice and support in the promotion and implementation of a self-management approach to chronic disease. Phillipa also provides representation on the Management Advisory Group of the Queensland Self-Management Alliance (QSMA) and the Statewide Respiratory Clinical Network.

Katie Griffin - Program Coordinator: Primary Care

Katie is a qualified doctor and occupational therapist. She brings to GPQ previous experience in a range of health care settings, in particular acute care from a medical perspective and community care from an allied health perspective. It is this background knowledge of the interface between the acute and primary care settings which informs her role within the Chronic Disease Team, focusing on integration.  As Program Coordinator – Primary Care Katie provides leadership and support to the division network in the implementation of the ABHI Primary Care Integration Program. In a clinical support capacity, Katie also provides liaison with Statewide Clinical Networks, particularly in relation to diabetes.

Michelle Costello - Program Coordinator: Closing the Gap

Michelle is the program coordinator for the ‘Closing the Gap’ initiative. The program’s aim is to improve the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to help reduce the life expectancy gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. To achieve its aim the program has three focus areas: supporting smoking cessation; improving the coordination of patient care; and delivering culturally appropriate primary health care services. Before coming to GPQ Michelle worked in Normanton (Gulf of Queensland) as a Health Promotion Practitioner with North and West QLD Primary Health Care.  She also worked as a Health Promotion Practitioner through eight Cape York Indigenous communities with Far North QLD Rural Division of General Practice (FNQRDGP). In her role as FNQRDGP’s Primary Health Care Manager - Cape York she managed five indigenous health improvement programs.  Michelle has completed ungraduate studies in Bachelor of Business: Communications and Bachelor of Science: Public Health. She is currently completing a Master’s research project. The aim of the project is to assess the impact of a reorientation strategy on FNQRDGP’s capacity to deliver comprehensive primary health care.

Thea Watson - Program Officer: Chronic Disease

Thea is a Program Officer for GPQ. Thea is responsible for providing support to the Chronic Disease and MSOAP teams. She holds a Bachelor Degree in Health Science, majoring in Public Health.

David Millichap - Program Coordinator: eHealth

David is a member of the eHealth team at GPQ. David and the eHealth team are responsible for implementing the iHealth Care project, assisting divisions with the IMMF, working with divisions to improve data quality and progressing other eHealth initiatives. Before working for GPQ David was manager of the Cancer Helpline at the Queensland Cancer Fund.

Kat Murray - Program Officer: eHealth

Kat is the Program Officer - eHealth at GPQ. She is responsible for the maintenance of the iHealth Care Directory as well as providing administrative support to the eHealth Team.  Kat comes to GPQ from the Central Queensland Rural Division of General Practice.

Jane Sanders - Program Coordinator: Immunisation

Jane joined GPQ as the Program Coordinator - Immunisation. One of her priorities is to support the work that is done at a Division level with immunisation, vaccine management and data management, whilst working on the broader issue of improving coverage rates and tackling those hard to reach groups. Some of this work involves collaborating with a variety of state-wide organisations, but will also need Division input to keep her informed about what is happening in Qld Division Network. Jane also co-leads on the implementation of GPQ’s community engaement strategy. Jane has come to GPQ after working at the Whitehorse Division of General Practice in Melbourne as a Program Coordinator.

Karen Hale-Robertson - Senior Program Leader: Mental Health

Karen is responsible for the overall development and coordination of mental health initiatives.  Karen is also the Mental Health Development and Liaison Officer (part of the National Primary Mental Health Network) and supports Queensland divisions in their uptake of a range of national primary mental heath care initiatives.  Karen co-leads implementation of GPQ’s community engagement strategy. Karen’s previous experience includes working on a range of workforce development projects in England’s non-government sector, and coordinating the General Practice and Psychiatry Partnerships (GPAPP) initiative (based at GPQ from 1999-2003).  Karen is currently completing a Masters of Health Science (health industry management).

Cathy Beck - Program Coordinator: PIM

Cathy (currently on maternity leave) is a Program Coordinator – Mental Health and supports National Primary Mental Health Care Programs in Queensland. Cathy’s role is focuses on developing and maintaining relationships with state health agencies and non-government organisations as well as supporting divisions. Cathy has worked as a mental health clinician and has managed projects in the public health system. More recently, Cathy has worked at the state level on the implementation of a range of services aimed at improving support to people with a mental illness.

 Angela Jegou - Program Coordinator: Partners in Mind

Angela is the Program Coordinator for the Partners in Mind project.  The Partners in Mind framework aims to guide best practice in primary mental health care, bringing together an array of primary mental health care stakeholders and assisting with the planning and delivery of primary mental health care services, thus improving patient outcomes.  Prior to her appointment at GPQ, Angela held a position with a local Southside Division, as the mental health coordinator, focusing on mental health program education and support for GPs and AHPs (mainly clinical and general psychologists), and linking local mental health stakeholders.  She has also completed studies in Applied Science (Human & Community Services) and Psychology.

Lauren Jesberg - Program Officer: Mental Health

Lauren is a Program Officer for GPQ. Lauren is responsible for providing network support, including e-updates and workshops, to the Mental Health team. She is also responsible for website and service directory maintenance. Lauren has completed a Bachelor of Science with majors in psychology and public health.

Michelle Underhill - Program Coordinator: Activate: Mind and Body Project

Michelle is the Program Coordinator - Activate: Mind and Body Project.  The project aims to improve the physical health of people with severe illness through the development of evidenced based resources and the expansion upon state & nation wide strategies. 
Prior to her appointment at GPQ, Michelle has worked in the mental health non-government sector developing and coordinating a variety of projects.  Michelle holds a Bachelor of Behavioural Science majoring in psychology and a Graduate Certificate in project management.

Emma Whitehead - Program Coordinator: Statewide Comorbidity

Emma is a Program Coordinator – Statewide Comorbidity. Previously employed with Queensland Health, Emma worked across a range of project areas as part of the ‘Eat Well Be Active’ initiative. Prior to moving to Australia in December 2006, Emma worked as a Manager for the National Health Service (NHS) (UK), leading primary care modernisation in prison healthcare, drug, alcohol and mental health services.

Kay Trotman - Program Coordinator: MSOAP

Kay is a Program Coordinator for MSOAP which aims to improve access for rural people to specialist services and provide upskilling opportunities for GPs and health professionals. Previously Kay was the Finance Officer for General Practice Queensland, has completed tertiary studies in Economics and has many years experience in management and finance in the private sector as well as the not-for-profit sector.

  Jane Cassidy - Program Coordinator: MSOAP
Jane is a program coordinator for GPQ. She is involved in the MSOAP program which aims to improve access for rural people to specialist services and provide upskilling opportunities for GP’s and health professionals.  Prior to working at GPQ, Jane was a Program manager for a corporate health company. Here she gained experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of health programs to both public and private clients. Jane is also completing her masters in Health Economics at the University of Queensland.

Tim is a Program Coordinator at GPQ. Tim has responsibility for Policy Development and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health. Before working for GPQ, Tim worked for Blue Care and the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing.

Hope Darby - Program Coordinator: Policy

Hope is a Program Coordinator at GPQ. Hope is responsible for providing policy support to the General Practice Advisory Council (GPAC), developing consultative responses and contributing to State and Commonwealth policy documents, as well as for managing the representation process of GPQ. Hope was previously responsible for the Can Do Initiative: Managing Mental Health and Substance Use in General Practice program. Hope has undertaken undergraduate studies in Psychology and has a Masters degree in Public Health.

   

Elise Gorman - Program Coordinator: NiGP & QUM

Elise works at GPQ as a Program Coordinator for the Nursing in General Practice and the Quality Use of Medicines Programs (National Prescribing Service and Home Medicines Review). Elise has completed a Bachelor of Health Sciences degree, majoring in Public Health and Health Services Management.

Dr Kylie Armstrong, PhD - Senior Research Fellow

Kylie is based in the Northern Region at Townsville in the office of North and West Primary Health Care. Kylie completed Masters and Doctoral programs around work associated with chronic disease with a research interest in maternal and paediatric health. Kylie draws on extensive experience with large projects and in liaising with government authorities, educational institutions, clinicians, community groups, non-for-profit organisations and the private sector.
